The earth lodge is a part of a project of improving the outdoor area of the Sami Kindergarten at Tøyen in Oslo. The project emphasizes the kindergarten's purpose to pursue and disseminate Sami tradition. It houses 30 children, and can be used for gatherings in the kinderkartens daily programme.

The earth lodge is a modern interpretation of the traditional Sami bealjjegoahti, characterized by the two structural arches. The windows of the new lodge stresses the construction as they follow the arches. The walls and roof is built is traditionally, although the birch bark is replaced by roofing board and the round stocks are replaced by structural timber. On the outside, turf is stacked and held in place by a reinforcement mesh. The inner floor, benches, window- and door frames and arches are made by solid wood elements, while the walls and roof is made by 2" x 4" wood panels. In the curved roof, this works like a shell construction.

The project is financed by the Sami Parliament in collaboration with several other sponsors, own efforts and help from parents.
