The building is shaped after a desire to adapt to the built environment and to the climate in Tromsø. The roof strives to meet the cornice- and ridge heights of the surrounding buildings, at the same time as the building seeks to give shelter from the harsh northern climate to the outdoor spaces. These lines that are taken from the environment, gives the building a shape of different angels that melts into the surroundings and creates a new language.
In general the plastic idiom tries to sew the new building into its surroundings, and underlines the importance of the conservation worthy buildings on the square. If the architecture is malleable enough to accommodate all the meeting lines, it will express a complex interplay between different interests, and so it will also express contemporaneity.
