Introduction
Competition entry for The National Road Department at Vøringsfossen in Eidfjord, Norway. A national icon and one of the most visit sites as a tourist attraction and a keyproject for the National Tourist Routes (http://www.turistveg.no ). The major goal for the design was to combine scenic infrastructure with the core of the norwegian landscapes - into a spectacular travel experience – powered by architecture.

Brief
Vøringsfossen is a national icon on the mountain pass between Eastern and Western Norway. It has a service centre and 500 000 visitors each year.It is located in Måbødalen, which is a string of valleys stretching from Western Norway’s coastline to Hardangervidda, 1200 meters above sea level. The project area forms a striking landscape plateau, 600 metres above sea level, encircled by characteristic mountain faces with the 200 meter high Vøringsfossen (Vørings Fall) as the central element of the landscape.
The project reflects the desire to put visitors in play with the landscape through an elliptic loop, an infrastructural tool and a superimposed element partly inside, upon and over the surface, into open space.
The design is formed as a circular ramp which defines the edge of a natural plateau landscape. A 360 degree panoramic view is opened up to the public through continuous maneuvering alternating between trail, path, ramp and bridge.
The project is designed as an iconic outline in the dramatic landscape, a closed connection which spans across the ravine of the valley. In the direction of the roads, maneuvering is done by following a trail system and other infrastructure.
An architectonic element which links infrastructure to nature and connects experiences to the landscape. A design which answers topologically in its meeting with the topography of the area.

The project is made to meet the needs of Vøringfossen as a tourist attraction.

A clear figure meets the dramatic landscape
