In the summer of 2001, the municipality of Moss (a district near to Oslo) organised a competition to build 24 dwellings for the homeless. These flats are located on 4 sites, allowing the inhabitants to be assimilated into the different neighbourhoods as far as possible.

The aim has been to create a simple and reasonable flat with a large, sheltered outdoor area with individual entrances. The four sites are very different, which has given four different ways of composing the flats.

The social aspect of the design is based on the ambition of maximum size of each unit within a fixed budget. By stressing material expenses and rationalizing the construction sceme, it was possible to expand each unit from 30 sqm to 44 sqm.
